Adelaide City Continue Fine Form In Victory

Adelaide City continued their fine form to remain top of the ladder, with a 4-2 victory over Adelaide United at Jack Smith Park in their Round 16 National Premier League encounter.

Adelaide City took the lead when Asad Kasumovic scored, but just before half time, United equalised when Alex Woodlands parried Mohamed Toure’s shot with Binyam Kebede on hand to tap the ball into the net.

Kur Kur made his first appearance in two months returning from International Duty with South Sudan to give the visitors the lead. But it was short lived when just less than 60 seconds later, Kebede’s shot hit the post and Toure was first to react and slot past Woodlands.

Moments later, Kasumovic gave City the lead again, when his cracker shot found the top left hand corner of the goal. Lachlan Barr sealed the victory with 10 minutes remaining with a header from a corner.

Croydon withstood the challenge of Adelaide Comets for 85 minutes, before a costly mistake in midfield, led to Jaiden Diamantis slicing through the Croydon defence to slot the ball into the back of the net, and hand his side Comets a 1-0 victory at SA Athletics Stadium.

South Adelaide handed Cumberland United their fifth loss in six matches, when the away side scored four times in the second half in a 4-0 thrashing at Bailey Reserve. Goals to Declan Gray, Daniel Evans, Liam Wooding and a late goal to Jonathan Rideout sealed the rout which allowed Panthers to jump back into the top 6.

Adelaide Olympic gave more misery to Adelaide Blue Eagles, when they came away with a 4-2 victory at Parks Football Centre. Jason Konstandopoulos scored twice, while Fausto Erba netted his eighth goal of the season with Greek import Ioannis Simosis scoring a cheeky backflick in injury time. Hamish McCabe scored after 5 minutes for Blue Eagles, with Isaac Mullen scoring late from the penalty spot.

Meanwhile, Michael Marrone returned to South Australian First Division football with a cracking goal after 8 minutes, as Sturt Lions thumped Adelaide Croatia Raiders 4-1 at West Beach. Alex Sortini scored a double, while Gonzalo Rodriguez scored his sixth goal of the season as he netted a penalty. Sydney recruit James Temelkovski got a consultation goal for the visitors.

On Friday night, MetroStars remained in second spot after a comfortable 3-0 victory over current League Champions Campbelltown City.
