Inter Claim Historic First Major Title

Salisbury Inter clinched their first ever Women’s major trophy, when they defeated Metro United 3-1 in the South Australian Women’s Cup Final at Parks Football Centre today.

Mina Nishitani had a chance to give Inter the lead after 15 minutes, when she took a shot from outside the 18 yard box, but it just sailed wide of the upright.

Moments later, against the run of play, Vanessa Reed gave Metro United the lead, after heading powerfully past Matilda Comley from corner play.

But just before half time, referee Gary Mooney gave Inter a penalty after Emily Heazlewood’s cross was misjudged by Metro keeper Melanie Comyns, and then she was adjudged to have interfered with Inter’s Emily Condon leading to a penalty. Maria Rojas Pino made no mistake from the spot to equalise the game.

Just after half time, Rojas Pino gave her side the lead, when Dragana Kljajic’s run down the wing, found Rojas Pino outside the box, who chipped the ball over Comyns head.

Condon and Rojas Pino continually put Metro’s defence under pressure, with Rojas Pino coming close to doubling the lead when after 55 minutes, she beat two defenders, but her shot just went wide of the upright.

Chances were few and far between for Metro, but Laura Stockdale had a chance to level the scores, when Roxeanne Dodd flicked the ball to Stockdale, but her shot went over the crossbar.

Condon sealed the victory for Inter when Comyns fumbled the ball after Kalh Adam Kahn crossed in from the wing, with Condon tapping the ball into the net.

It was a memorable day for Salisbury Inter, with the club claiming the Women’s Division 1/2/3 Cup Final with a 3-0 win over Adelaide University.
