West Adelaide and Salisbury Inter maintained their positions at the top of the table, both winning comprehensively in Round 15 of the Women’s National Premier League – SA competition.
West Adelaide thumped Fulham United 5-1 at TK Shutter Reserve on Saturday evening. Fiona Worts got Fulham off to the perfect start scoring after 5 minutes, but a double by Harriet Burnett and goals to Nicole Tilley and Christie Hillyer, and an own goal, kept Westies at the head of the table.
On Friday night, Maria Rojas led Inter to a 3-0 win over Football SA NTC, with two goals including a cracker volley from 25 yards out. Not to be outdone, Dragana Kljajic scored a cheeky goal, when her strike from outside the 18 yard box took a deflection and sailed over the NTC keepers head.
Adelaide Comets rebounded from their midweek Cup Semi Final loss to Metro United, with a 3-2 victory over Metro at Parks Football Centre. Emily Gale got the scoring going after 25 minutes when she scored for Comets, but Laura Stockdale equalised for Metro just before half time.
Nanako Sasaki scored for Comets after 60 minutes, with Yuka Sasaki scoring ten minutes later with a strike from outside the 18 yard box. Stockdale clawed a goal back for Metro moments later, but it was not enough as Comets won their fourth game of the season.
Meanwhile, Adelaide City missed a chance to close the gap of the top two teams, when they drew with Adelaide University at Adelaide City Park. Chelsie Dawber was missing for the home team, as Georgia Iannella gave the away side the lead just after the half hour mark. City then scored twice in the second half through Isabel Hodgson and Alana Fitzsimmons, before Tanaye Morris equalised for the visitors moments before full time to level the scores 2-2.
