Veitch Scores Leveler In Crazy Scenes

In one of the most incredible matches in South Australian football, South Adelaide came back from 4-1 down and playing with 10 men, to draw level with Adelaide Croatia Raiders 4-4, scoring three times in injury time and a goal from goalkeeper Ryan Veitch in Round 17 of the National Premier League – SA competition.

Despite going down to 10 men, after Liam Wooding was sent off for a second yellow card just after half time, Panthers goalkeeper Veitch popped up during a late free kick and scored with the last kick of the game.

James Temelkovski got Raiders on the scoresheet first, when he was first to react after Veitch save landed at Temelkovski feet and he put his home side ahead.

Temelkovski put his side further ahead six minutes later, when he latched on to a long ball, and caught Veitch out of his box and slotted the ball into the empty net.

Panthers seemed unlucky to go down to 10 men just after the break, when Wooding’s attempted tackle saw Omari Didero go down late from the challenge, and referee Garry Powers showed him a second yellow card. Replays showed that Wooding seemed to either miss Didero or just slightly touched the player.

Vianne Kurikwimana scored his first ever senior goal, as he gave Raiders a 3-0 lead, when Temelkovski slipped the ball across the 6 yard box and he had no trouble finishing past Veitch.

Jonathan Rideout reduced the deficit moments later, when he got on the end of a long ball, and beat an advancing Nick Munro in goals for Raiders to give Panthers hope in coming back from three goals down.

With four minutes remaining in regular time, Kurikwimana scored Raiders fourth in a goal mouth scramble, in what the home side thought was the sealer.

In crazy scenes to finish the game, Panthers’ Jonathan Rideout scored in the 92nd minute after reacting to a mix up by the Raiders defence in a corner play, and moments later a quick throw in found Jonathan Rideout who beat his defender and found Masaya Sasaki free inside the six yard box to tap in from close range.

A late free kick saw Munro punched the cross away, but the ball came back into the box, and Veitch was on hand to level the scores, much to the dismay of the home supporters.

Panthers coach Andrew Calderbank was shown a red card just before the restart, but that didn’t matter as his side shocked the home side supporters with the final result.
